Fitzgerald Junior is an award-winning Black filmmaker with a penchant for crafting stories that bloom from a deep-rooted curiosity about and love for Black people. His art practice is as sprawling as the American South and encompasses writing, filmmaking, music, collage, painting and other expressive forms.
He is developing works that explore blackness in never-before-imagined social and cultural contexts. His work centers Black men and boys and he is committed to an image-making practice that orients Black people towards healing.
Fitzgerald Junior is a curator and programmer at Hyphen Film Center, whose mission is to engage, enrich, and educate diverse audiences through innovative cinematic arts exhibition while reducing social barriers to participation. His empathic space-making abilities have produced once in a lifetime experiences at the intersection of cinema exhibition and community-building. Hyphen Film Center proudly serves the city of Louisville, Kentucky. and is currently planning its third season.
Fitzgerald Junior is a disabled veteran who served honorably, to include combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
He is a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
He lives in Louisville, Kentucky with his vinyl, books & sneakers and a steady growing collection of postcards. he really enjoys reading Kiese Laymon and James Baldwin, he digs Miles Davis’ “Flamenco Sketches“, and regularly sends handwritten letters to the homies.
